Federal Grant Helps HellermannTyton Expand

HellermannTyton will more than double the size of its Milwaukee plant thanks to help from a $741,000 federal grant, the Milwaukee Business Journal reports.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grant will help finance  a 102,000 sq ft addition to its 92,000 sq ft facility at 6701 W. Good Hope Road, creating space for up to 125 new jobs in the next five years, according to the Journal.

The fastener manufacturer “first bought an existing industrial building there in 2012, but has already outgrown the space,” writes Sean Ryan of the Journal.

The Northwest Side Community Development Corp. will work with the Milwaukee Economic Development Corp. to provide a loan for the expansion.

HellermannTyton’s Good Hope Road facility earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification, a green building certification system established by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED recognizes buildings for sustainable and environmentally sound practices.

LEED activities that HellermannTyton is engaging in include self-sustaining landscape planning; an exterior lighting plan to reduce light pollution; and use of low volatile organic compound (VOC) emitting building materials.

HellermannTyton is looking to further its LEED certifications on the expansion.
