The worst is over for employee layoffs, according to FIN Survey participants.
A total of 45.4% reported total employment dropped during 2001, and only 15.6% of the companies increased employment.
But only 13.5% expect to cut staff in 2002.
Though layoffs may be down, nearly two-thirds of the survey respondents (65.2%) predict no increase in the number of employees during 2002, and only 17.7% are projecting adding workers.
Nearly a majority of manufacturers (49.2%) reported decreases during 2001, and almost a quarter (23.8%) of manufacturers anticipate additional cuts in 2002. \ 2002 FastenerNews.com
