FIN Company Performance Index Drops to New Low for 2009

The FIN Company Performance Index plummeted to a new low for 2009. The Index fell from 6.5 at the end of 2008 to 3.8 a year later.

In the 16 years of the FIN Index, it had ranged from a low of 5.6 at the end of 2001 to a high of 7.9 for 1994.

• Last year 11.1% rated their companies at the perfect 10 of record growth and profits. This year no company pegged itself at 10.

• A year ago only one company check the lowest “in bankruptcy” rating. For 2009 3.4% of participating companies rated themselves at the lowest level.

• The percentage of companies reporting the high end of 8 to 10 dropped from 30.5% a year ago to 20.1% for 2009.

• A total of 17.3% rated their companies at 4 or below, just better than 18.1% in the low numbers for 2008.
