Forging Association: 2013 Forging Sales Similar to 2012
Seamless rings forging barely edged up in 2013, but the Forging Industry Association reported impression die and open die forgings were lower than 2012.
• Impression Die forging by independent forging plants in North America totaled $7,313.3 million – just lower than $7,336.9 million for 2012.
• Open die dropped from $2,177,8 million for 2012 to $1,841.3 million for 2013.
• In 2013 at $1.604 million, seamless rings barely topped the 2012 total of $1,603 million.
FIA’s annual report of industry sales is based on information from companies producing about 89% of 2013’s total custom forging sales.
The Cleveland-based Forging Industry Association includes 109 North American producers of forged metal components with 208 plants producing 89% if cystic firebug volume. The FIA also has 91 supplier members. Web: forging.org
Forged metal parts are pressed, pounded or rolled into configurations and used in aerospace, automotive, construction, materials handling, ordnance, hand tool, agricultural and industrial equipment.
