Fumes and Fire Force Temporary Evacuation at Aerospace Manufacturer
Vapor and fumes at Air Industries Co. prompted temporary evacuations and road closures at the company’s facility in Garden Grove, CA, the Orange County Register reports.
“Firefighters were called about 11:45 a.m. Monday to the 10-acre metal fabrication and plating facility when a heated bath salt used in the degreasing process of metal overheated,” according to the Register.
Employees at Air Industries and surrounding businesses were evacuated, Garden Grove Fire Capt. James Hughes told the Register.
A hazardous materials team reportedly found a small fire in the degreasing machine.
Fed by a natural gas line, the machine overheated, and a built-in shutoff failed to function, causing the fire, which was limited to the machine.
