Groov-Pin Corporation is marking its 90th anniversary during May 2016.
The company was founded in 1926 by E.H. Schniewind in Long Island City, NY, where the patented press-fit fastener for shear strength to withstand severe shock and vibration called a grooved pin was developed.
In the 1950s Groov-Pin added Tap-Lok threaded inserts.
In the 1990s Groov-Pin acquired Speedserts threaded inserts from Fairchild Fasteners (now Alcoa) to complement its self-tapping parts. In the late 1990s, Groov-Pin acquired Precision Turned Components of Rhode Island, a manufacturer of tight-tolerance parts for the telecommunications / RF Connector market.
Since adopting lean manufacturing in 2009, Groov-Pin has “built a tighter team,” CEO Scot Jones said. “There is more sharing of ideas across our business and even other business and that has improved our internal attitude, as well as how our customers view us.” The team of employees “has really turned the company around to be a very different company and well suited for advanced manufacturing.”
