Heico Largest of Fastener Names on Chicago’s Top Private Company List

Heico Companies Inc. , which acquired Ivaco in 2004, ranks 15th on Crain’s list of Chicago’s largest privately held companies.

Crain’s Chicago Business lists McMaster-Carr Supply Co. at #22; MacLean-Fogg is 47; and Richco Inc. 261.

Heico, headed by chair Emily Heisley Stoeckel, had 2008 revenue of $2.5 billion and 10,500 employees. Heico is listed as a “buyout/turnaround firm specializing in manufacturing companies.”

Heico’s Ivaco includes Canadian-based fastener manufacturer Ifastgroupe.

Industrial products wholesaler McMaster-Carr has sales of $1.6 billion and 4,000 employees.
MacLean-Fogg 2008 sales were listed as $730 million with 3,100 employees.

The association management company for the National Fastener Distributors Association – SmithBucklin is #234.

The largest public companies with fastener business include Illinois Tool Works Inc. at #14; W.W. Grainger #25; Anixter International Inc. #26; Lawson Products #97; and Chicago Rivet & Machine Co., #150.

Crain’s lists ITW CEO David Speer at 11th on the list of the “Fortunate 100” executives based on total compensation. Speer’s total compensation was up 28.3% to $12.7 million. Grainger CEO James Ryan is 24th with $.6.1 million; and Anixter CEO Robert Eck 56th at $2.9 million.

An executive for one Chicago privately held fastener company formerly on the list said he has understated sales results to get off the list.

The downside to the “honor” of making the largest list is solicitations, he explained. The published list is complete with CEO names, telephone numbers, plus sales and product information. ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
