Hyundai Recalling 140,000 Vehicles Due to Bolt Tightening Issue

Hyundai is recalling more than 140,000 Tucson vehicles in the U.S. and Puerto Rico because two bolts fastening the driver’s air bag to the steering wheel may not have been correctly tightened, according to the Economic Times.

The South Korean automaker told the U.S. National Highway Transportation Safety Administration that no accidents have been reported due to the torque issue, AsiaOne reported.

“If both bolts become loose and detach, the driver’s airbag module could become detached from the steering wheel. It could result in injury in the event of a crash,” Hyundai wrote to the NHTSA.

Hyundai will contact owners and dealers will check the air bag bolts and tighten them accordingly for free.
