IFI Seminars Introduce GD&T Guide

Jason Sandefur

The Industrial Fasteners Institute introduced a new desk reference guide for Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.\
“To ensure accurate design, production and inspection of fasteners and their tooling, GD&T has become the universal language for engineering,” IFI director of engineering Charlie Wilson explained. “Because fastener drawings are now employing GD&T features, IFI has developed a new guide to be a desk top reference specific to mechanical fasteners.”
The IFI Guide to GD&T will be introduced to fastener makers, distributors and end users in a series of seminars: Long Beach, CA, February 15, 2005; Bloomingdale, IL, February 17; Detroit, March 16; and Toronto, March 22.
Robert Skillman, president of ACT Services International Inc., is the seminar instructor. Skillman has 35 years of engineering experience in manufacturing. He teaches the Six Sigma Black Belt Program for Cleveland State University.
Seminar participants will receive the IFI Guide to GD&T, a workbook teaching tool and slide rule Key to Geometric Characteristics.
The seminar will help participants understand GD&T language used in fastener drawings; magnitude of variation in part production; part gaging and inspection; establishing part daturns; specifying part features and positional tolerances; and measurement system analysis, material condition modifiers and tolerances
