Nifco America To Add 100 Jobs

Injection-molding fastener manufacturer Nifco American Corp. is expanding its facility in Shelbyville, KY, Business First reports.
Nifco American Corp. has undertaken a 60% increase in its facility footprint, adding 73,000 sq ft to its 115,000 sq ft factory at 380 Hudson Blvd. Plans call for a $3 million investment, including equipment added over the next two years.

The expansion should be completed by the end of April, allowing Nifco to add about 100 employees to its workforce by the end of 2013 — nearly doubling its local employee totals to about 200.

Assistant VP Brian Kelley reportedly told Business First the expansion was needed to handle increased growth from Toyota Motor Corp., which has manufacturing operations in Georgetown, KY, where the Camry, Avalon and Venza are made.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority has already approved $70,000 in state sales tax rebates for the expansion.

Headquartered in Ohio, Nifco America is owned by Nifco Inc., a Japanese company founded in 1967.

Nifco America began as a joint venture with ITW in 1987 with a small plant in Hilliard, Ohio, that serviced Honda primarily. In 1991, Nifco opened a second plant in La Vergne, TN, to meet the increasing demands of Nissan.

Ten years after opening its first plant, Nifco America bought out ITW and established a new location in Groveport, OH.  This location included administration, R&D, tooling, molding, and assembly operations.  Nifco further expanded its Ohio operations by purchasing a new assembly and molding space in Canal Winchester, OH.

In 2006, Nifco consolidated the administration, R&D, tooling, warehouse, and assembly operations in Ohio by expanding the Canal Winchester facility, which serves as North American corporate headquarters.

In 2005, Nifco further expanded its North American operations by adding a molding and assembly operations in Chihuahua, Mexico.  Nifco also added molding and assembly operations in Shelbyville, KY, in 2007 to handle business from Toyota. ©2013 GlobalFastenerNews.com
