NIFMSE Survey: California Tops Attendee List of States, Followed by Illinois & Ohio
A majority of 2015 attendees and exhibiting companies were either fastener distributors or manufacturers, according to a survey released by the National Industrial Fastener & Mill Supply Expo.
• A 55% majority of attendees were fastener distributors and another 6% were distributors of other products. Suppliers accounted for 24%; independent sale reps 9%; and services 6%.
• A 53% majority of exhibitors were fastener manufacturers; another 29% manufacturers of other products; 16% master distributors; and 2% manufacturers reps.
• Fasteners were the top product category with 90.7% of exhibitors supplying fasteners. Lowest were safety products at 18.6% and software 7.7%.
• Canada provided the most international attendees, followed by Taiwan, Mexico, China, India, Japan, Germany, Italy, Colombia and Brazil. Asian countries together totaled 35% of international attendees, compared with 28% from Canada; Mexico, Central America and Caribbean 20%; Europe 11%; South America 4%; Oceania 2%; and Africa 1%.
A total of 82.4% of attendees participating in the survey rated “maintain an build relationships, network” as a reason to attend. Seeing existing suppliers totaled 76.5% – just ahead of finding new suppliers at 72.4%. Both keeping up-to-date with industry and trends an seeing new products were 68.8%.
Of distributors, 53% were industrial; construction distributors 14%; production 9%; VMI 6%; aerospace 6%; MRO 4%; electronic 3%; auto-after market 3%; military 1%; and metrics 1%.
California provided the largest number of domestic attendance, followed by Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Pennsylvania, New York, Arizona, Minnesota and Florida.
Almost half of domestic attendees came from a 13-state region ranging from North Dakota south to Texas and east to Alabama. Eight Rocky Mountain states totaled 8% of domestic attendees; California, Oregon and Washington were 22%; and Midwest, New England, Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern states were 21%.
The trade show was held in October 2015 in Las Vegas.
NIFMSE was acquired by Emerald Expositions after the 2015 trade show. Emerald operates more than 50 U.S. business-to-business trade shows plus face-to-face events in total, including conferences, summits and other events.
