Obituary: Harriet Callahan

Harriet Callahan, wife of Fastener Industry News founder Dick Callahan, died May 27, 2001, of COPD, a lung disease.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., June 6, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, NC.
Harriet began working with Dick in 1974 on Wire Industry News and Wire Technology magazine during the mid-�70s. After leaving the magazine the Callahans continued to publish WIN and launched FIN in 1979. In 1980 they founded the New England Wire & Cable Club. Dick was editor and publisher, and Harriet handled the behind-the-scenes day-to-day operations for the businesses.
The Callahans retired after selling FIN to John Wolz and Ann Bisgyer in 1994, WIN to CRU International in 1994 and the wire club to Ray Zirkle and Ed Fenton in 1995.
Born Harriet Hungerford in West Hartford, CT, in 1933, she was the youngest of nine children. Dick & Harriet married in 1979. She is survived by her husband, six siblings, five children and eight grandchildren.
