Rick Perkaus Sr., founder of Fastener Specialties Manufacturing, died October 11, 2006, of lung disease at age 65.
He started in the fastener industry as a teenager at Heads & Threads in Chicago. He joined Stevens Socket Screw (later became Hunter-Stevens) where he held multiple positions, including pricing specialist and machine shop manager. In the early 1970s he went out on his own selling screws and making deliveries from a home-based business. His wife Janie answered phones from their living room. She died in 1999. In 1980 the business was moved to Florida.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Beal, and son, Rick Perkaus Jr., both active in the business; four grandchildren; and seven siblings.
