Ohio Star Forge Eyes Stake in “Very Large Recovery”
Ohio Star Forge is looking to win approval for its $20 million expansion plan, Vindy.comreports. The Warren, OH-based company wants to add a 33,000 sq ft building and up to $16 million in new forging equipment, boosting its workforce by 25 to 30 employees in the next three years.
Part of the plan calls for the addition of a 1,500-ton piece of equipment — twice the size of any piece currently used by the mill, according to Vindy.com.
An independent subsidiary of Daido Steel, Ohio Star manufactures over 14,000 tons of hot-rolled bars annually for fasteners and other automotive parts. The company currently operates a 147,000 sq ft facility on a 10-acre site. Company equipment includes three Hatebur hot forgers, a Roller Hearth Spherodize annealing furnace and nine Kyoei Seiko cold roll forming machines.
Ohio Star president Billy Orbach told Vindy.com that his company is negotiating electricity rates for the project.
“Hopefully the first of the year we’ll have a final decision,” he said. “It’s not a done deal.”
Orbach said the “very large recovery” of the U.S. automotive market is fueling demand for Ohio Star products. ©2012 GlobalFastenerNews.com
