OHSA Honors Textron’s Avdel Cherry

Textron Fastening Systems Avdel Cherry operations in Stanfield, NC, received the Voluntary Protection Programs award from the Occupational Safety & Health Administration.
Avdel Cherrys North Carolina facility has gone six years without a lost-time accident. It is one of 43 North Carolina plants and one of 745 facilities nationwide to receive the award since 1982.
General manager Paul Moentmann said the program requires employee participation. “You cannot limit safety to a committee or management program. Its only effective if each and every employee owns it. All of our ACT employees are committed to the process to ensure its success.”
The award requires plants to have an injury and illness rate at least 20% below the industry average and pass a health and safety program review.
The Stanfield plant produces blind fasteners and is home to the Textron Fastening Systems automation group. Web:textron.com 2001 FastenerNews.com
