The Pacific-West Fastener Association has named its new scholarship fund for Mel Kirsner.

His widow, Judy Kirsner, announced at the Pac-West spring conference she is collecting fastener history items to restart Mel’s Fastener Museum, which was destroyed by a Southern California wildfire in 2003.

Kirsner, founder of Pell Mell Supply in 1963 and a part time curator of Mel’s Fastener Museum, died in 2008. The museum he built in the mountains above Julian, CA, was destroyed by fire in 2003 (see articles by clicking Fastener History on GlobalFastenerNews.com).

Kirsner began collecting fastener memorabilia in the 1960s and built his museum around an 1876 oak bolt and nut cabinet.

Kirsner endowed the Pac-West scholarship fund. On June 7, 2010, Pac-West is sponsoring the first Mel Kirsner Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing to raise money for the scholarship fund.

Those wanting to donate historical items to the museum may contact Judy Kirsner: E-mail: 1judithann@gmail.com. ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
