Demand for packaging machinery is expected to rise in 2004. A study by the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute found 66% of industrial goods and consumer companies will boost packaging machinery expenditures 4% to a total of $5.48 billion this year. The top three reasons companies cite for new packaging equipment are replacing machinery to gain productivity; expanding production capacity; and adding automated machinery to reduce labor costs.
