Protests at GFD plant closure

In mid June GFD S.p.A. announced to employees that its L’Isle-sur-le-Doubs plant would close by the end of the year. The plant, which produces VBI and VBA Plus woodscrews, has a daily production capacity of 12 million screws. Production is expected to be relocated to GFD’s Saint-Etienne plant. 43 workers are also understood to have been offered relocation. However, there have been local media reports of a large-scale protest against the plant closure.

Overall fastener manufacturing output in France is reported to be 36 percent down on 2008 levels.
