Pursuit of Happyness’ Christopher Gardner to Keynote at STAFDA
Christopher Gardner, the rags-to-riches subject of the recent movie and bestselling book, “The Pursuit of Happyness” will be the keynote speaker at the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association 31st annual convention, November 4-6, 2007, in Nashville.
Gardner will speak on “Breaking Cycles & Overcoming Obstacles.”
Born in Milwaukee in the mid 1950s, Gardner never knew his father. His mother “taught him that he could attain whatever goals he set for himself.” His first job was as a medical supply salesman but a chance encounter with a stockbroker and a red Ferrari led him to a Dean Witter Reynolds training program. Though he started training as part of the “working homeless” and single parent of an infant son sleeping in a church shelter or municipal transportation bathroom, Gardner soon became the brokerage’s top producer. He opened his own brokerage firm, Gardner Rich & Co., in Chicago in 1987.
