NEWS BRIEF
Smith Fastener Co. broke ground on a new facility in South Charleston, WV, the Charleston Daily Mail reports.
“The company plans to move its 41 employees and its nuts-and-bolts distribution center from the eastern edge of Kanawha City” — where it has operated since 1971 — “to a lot near the former FMC hydrogen peroxide plant and the fly ash pond,” writes Daily Mail Business Editor George Hohmann.
Smith Fasteners reportedly paid $1.1 million for 9.5 acres of land in the South Charleston Industrial Park in August 2012.
Company President Jim Smith confirmed that site preparation has begun.
“We’re still in the design stage for a building and hope to have that completed in the next four or five weeks,” Smith told the Daily Mail.
Mayor Frank Mullens gave Smith Fasteners a vote of confidence.
“That’s a strong small business. We’re lucky to get them in South Charleston.”
Founded in 1965 when W.J. Smith purchased the ZIM Supply Co., Smith Fasteners is a full line fastener distributor to the equipment manufacturing, mining, oil refinery, chemical manufacturing, steel and aluminum manufacturing and other industries. ©2013 GlobalFastenerNews.com
