Report: Smith Fasteners Mulls New Facility

Charleston, WV-based Smith Fasteners reportedly paid $1.1 million for 9.5 acres of  land in the South Charleston Industrial Park, but the company said any announcement to build a new facility would be premature, the Charleston Gazette reports.
Company president Jim Smith told the Gazette said the company would try to build, though it has no immediate plans.

“We’re landlocked where we’re at with no growth opportunities to increase the building size,” he said. “We had looked [for land] for some time… South Charleston was very helpful.”

Smith Fasteners employs about 50 workers and reportedly seeks to expand based on an increase in machine shop work related to fasteners.

“We’re still trying to put it all together so there’s nothing definite at this point other than we have bought the property,” Smith said.

Founded in 1965 when W.J. Smith purchased the ZIM Supply Co., Smith Fasteners is a  full line fastener distributor to the equipment manufacturing, mining, oil refinery, chemical manufacturing, steel and aluminum manufacturing and other industries. ©2012 GlobalFastenerNews.com
