Report: U.S. Wire Rod Imports Fall in May
U.S. imports of wire rod, rebar and heavy structural shapes in May decreased from April levels, Platt’s Steel Businessreports.
Preliminary Census data of carbon and alloy wire rod imports show that U.S. imported 78,589 tons in May — more than 10,000 tons less than it had license to import.
“Most of the deficit can be attributed to a shortfall in imports from Turkey – 7,489 tons – compared to the licensed 18,732 tons.
May’s import total represents a 44% decrease from April, when wire rod imports from Turkey reached 40,533 tons, Platt’s reports. ©2012 GlobalFastenerNews.com
