David Sharp led a team of volunteer structural engineers who salvaged pieces of steel from the rubble for further study. One of the facts the salvaged steel revealed was that the floor truss panels were connected to the perimeter columns by two erection bolts, Sharp stated.

When the first plane struck the north tower of the World Trade Center at 8:48 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, most of the 30 people working at fastener distributor NABS headquarters were at work five blocks to the north.
