Typhoons Malakas and Megi were among the strongest of 17 storms to strike Taiwan in September 2016, but the editor of Fastener World magazine said thus far there are no reports of major damage in the fastener production areas.
“The rain it brought was a pretty big deal and flooded many parts of southern Taiwan including Kaohsiung, but mostly in urban areas,” Dean Tseng said.
“The gust level was nothing less than Katrina and a few houses in the damage areas are losing their roofs.”
The fastener plants were apparently “spared from the disaster,” he reported.
Bob Sachs of XL Screw confirmed that the importer has “not heard of any problems with the factories that we deal with as a result of the recent typhoons.”
On September 20, category 3 tropical storm Malakas brought 115-mph winds and 20 inches of rain, leaving more than 3.5 million households without power and 46,900 acres of crops under water.
“It’s only a matter of time before we finish the cleanup,” Dean said.
