Foley: Company Selling STAFDA List is Scam
A company sent emails selling a list of attendees at the 2015 Specialty Tools & Manufacturers Association is conducting a “scam,” executive director Georgia Foley said.
“This scam company tries this every year,” Foley told FIN. “I’ve called them and emailed them and am either hung up on or blown off. The person’s name on the mail is also 100% phony.”
Foley pointed out that the scammer’s statistical information is “bogus anyway.”
“They have nothing to do with STAFDA.”
The email sent claims to have the list of attendees at the annual convention. “The attendees are updated by our staff of marketers by phone. This list comprises of 6,000 trade show people.”
They are selling the list for $600.
The offer lists Nick Howard as the contact: Email: nick.howard@eventsconnections.com Tel: 954 607-1601
Internet scams may be reported to the FBI: ic3.gov.
Foley said the company changes its name every year.
“I think they are based out of Vegas, but it’s like the companies who scam for cheaper hotel rates for conventions. Last year they tried to scam STAFDA members with the name ‘TIRA,’ and this year they used something else. These companies are the bane of the hospitality industry and because they constantly change names, it’s tough for officials to track them down.”
“Educating our members about scammers is the best we can do,” Foley said. Web: STAFDA.org
