“For engineers combating vibrational loosening, axial-torsional loading, joint fatigue, and thermal extremes, conventional fastening methods involving standard 60 degree threads have posed design limitations for too long and proven solutions, backed by test data, have been relatively nonexistent,” according to Spiralock.
In dynamic and static testing by Goddard Space Flight Center, Spiralock nuts stainless alloy A-286 and alloy steel nuts were tested under vibration and static load conditions. “Preliminary tests in vibration clearly demonstrated that these nuts would not back off under the vibration specifications listed for the space shuttle,” states the Goddard report. “Further vibration tests in sine and random were applied that were ten times as strong and ten times as long as the shuttle specifications, and they did not back off.”
For data from the Goddard and other tests contact Spiralock, P.O. Box 71629, Madison Tech Center, Madison Heights, MI 48071. Tel: 900 521-1403. Fax 248 543-1403 E-mail: slinfo@spiralock.com Web: spiralock.com
