� Federal Screw Works authorized the repurchase of up to 185,000 shares � about 13% of outstanding common stock. � Sundram Fasteners Ltd. has entered into a memorandum of understanding to purchase Dana Spicer Europe Ltd.�s precision forge unit in Cramlington, England. Terms of the deal � Sundram�s first overseas acquisition � were not disclosed. Cramlington Precision Forge is one of only three trade precision forge businesses in Europe capable of producing heavy-duty precision forged differential gears. Dana Spicer is part of the Automotive Aftermarket Group of the $10 billion Dana Corp. based in Toledo, OH.
Sundram hopes the acquisition helps it become competitive to meet the global forging demands of major companies, such as GM and Cummins.

� Kim Stropes is retiring as president of Threaded Rod Company Inc. on December 31, 2003, after 44 years in the fastener industry, CEO Rebecca Branson announced. Stropes has been with Threaded Rod for 30 years.
Stropes started at Quality Mill Supply Co. in Indianapolis and then was with Jones & Laughlin Steel Service Center for 10 years.
�Thirty years ago we were very small company,� Stropes recalled of his starting at Threaded Rod. �We did everything from order desk to washing the windows to loading trucks.�
The biggest change during his career has been replacing personal relationships with �a numbers game,� Stropes observed. �People used to do things for each other.� He attributed the change to the electronic revolution but noted that technology has been a plus in allowing companies to operate more efficiently.
