” Cardinal Fastener & Specialty Company Inc. integrated Standard Nut & Bolt Co. from Rhode Island into its plant in Cleveland.
Denise Muha was recruited out of retirement to run the new company as general manager.
Cardinal Fastener purchased Standard Nut & Bolt in November 2005 and continued operating it from its location in Cumberland, RI, where it was founded 125 years ago.
“The plant in Rhode Island was very old and not conducive to the implementation of our Lean Thinking manufacturing principles,” stated COO Wendy Brugmann. “Relocating to Cleveland allowed us to establish manufacturing cells which are set up to provide customers extremely short lead times.”
Standard Nut gives Cardinal Fastener the added product lines of stainless steel and exotic bolts and nuts, as well as the ability to manufacture and sell products to military specifications, including MIL I 45208 A and MIL DTL 1222 J.

” ITW Red Head will relocate its general office in early April from Wood Dale, IL, to a larger facility in nearby Addison to accommodate the company”s growth.
Located 25 miles west of Chicago, the new office will include a comprehensive testing lab for certified evaluation of products, a training center for executive workshops and consultations, and a research and development facility.
Associates working in accounting and credit, sales and marketing, engineering and technical support, administration, and human resources, will work at the new facility.

” Powers Fasteners Inc. opened an engineering research and testing laboratory for cracked concrete at its New York headquarters and named Jacob Olsen vice president for R&D, president Jeffrey Powers announced.
The 15,000 sq ft lab replicates jobsite environments and “enables Powers Fasteners to accommodate specialty requests and applications, and to thoroughly test and validate products and procedures,” Jeffrey Powers explained.
Olsen, a professional engineer, joined Powers in 2005 as director of product development after five years as staff engineer with Oakland-based CEL Consulting, a materials testing and consulting firm

” Solon Manufacturing Company promoted J. Timothy Dunn to president; George Davet to vice president/secretary; and Perry Blossom to vice president/treasurer.
Dunn succeeds David Carpenter, who has been with the firm since 1960. Carpenter was instrumental in developing Solon”s Pressure Switch product line and will remain chairman. “We are very pleased to have this caliber of talent to promote from within,” states Carpenter.
Dunn began his Solon career in 1978 in manufacturing and production. He quickly rose to Industrial Controls division manager and in 1992 Dunn was promoted to vice president.
Davet, a mechanical engineer, has been with Solon since 1993 and most recently as chief engineer for the industrial control and Belleville springs divisions. Davet oversees application design and product development for all of Solon. He has written and published articles and conducted seminars on Belleville Springs applications.
Blossom joined Solon in 1993 and has been corporate treasurer and manger of the Belleville Springs division. Blossom will continue to oversee Belleville financials, manufacturing, production and sales.

” R.J. Harris is semi-retiring from Southern Fasteners & Supply Inc. Harris retains a majority of stock and the title of president but operations are being taken over by a new part owner and vice president, Gene Yates; Harris” daughter, Donna Goins, as a part owner and sales manager; and son-in-law Glenn Goins as service manager.
Yates was with Capitol Bolt before it became part of Questron.
Harris started in the fastener industry in 1960 with Interlock Screw & Bolt, which later became House of Threads. Harris also was a sales rep for Southern Screw. Harris started Triad Fasteners in 1972 and sold it in 1973. He started Southern Fasteners 26 years ago. Harris has been a member of the National Fastener Distributors Association board.
