NEWS BRIEFS
Sonic Industries Part of Boeing Team on Aerial Refueling Tankers

Specialty fastener supplier Sonic Industries Inc. was chosen by Boeing as a member of its nationwide team competing for the U.S. Air Force’s new fleet of aerial refueling tankers.

The move allows Sonic Industries, a member of the Sargent Aerospace & Defense Co., to become eligible to increase orders if Boeing is awarded the U.S. Air Force tanker contract in mid-2010.

Torrance, CA-based Sonic Industries currently makes specialty, high-strength fasteners for all Boeing’s Commercial Aircraft platforms, including the 787 Dreamliner.

“Sargent has been supplying specialty fasteners, self-lubricated lined bearings, and hydraulic controls to Boeing for more than 30 years on both commercial and military platforms,” stated Sonic Industries vice president Ed Elsner. “The Boeing tanker bid will certainly allow us to create additional business opportunities to help support our 700+ workers, their families and our community.”

If Boeing, which works with more than 5,800 companies in California, is awarded the contract, it would support at least 50,000 new and existing jobs across the U.S.

Founded in 1920, Sargent is part of Dover Industrial Products’ Mobile Equipment, Transportation Group, and is a global supplier of custom engineered, precision products and services to the aerospace and defense industries. ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
