SHORTTAKES: Atlantic Fasteners, CDP Fastener Group, Chun Zu, DCI International, Earnest Machine Products, Elgin Fastener Group and Marine Fasteners

The military-aerospace division of Atlantic Fasteners moved across the street to a warehouse five times larger than the division’s previous space.

“We now have room for expansion,” quality control manager Dana Lees said. “And a big benefit of the move is that we are 70% more efficient than we were in our previous location,” Lees added. “Previously, we had to go from one building to another to fill orders. Now we have all of our military-aerospace operations under one roof.”

Operational facilities at the new site at 1434A Memorial Ave. in West Springfield, include an inspection lab within a secure storage area; additional secure bulk storage; and a shipping/receiving dock.

Sales and purchasing continue to be handled through the division’s Portland, Maine and St. Louis offices.

Improper Tightening of Fasteners Lead to Nissan, Suzuki Recalls

The 2010 Nissan Pathfinder, Xterra and Frontier and Suzuki’s Equator models are being recalled due to improper tightening of fasteners in the airbag module and sheering shaft.

Fasteners holding the front passenger air bag may not have been tightened to adequate tongue and could come loose in a collision, causing the air bag to deploy improperly.

Also fasteners holding the steering shaft positioning bracket may not have been sufficiently tightened. That could cause play in the steering column and wheel, which could lead to a crash.

The Suzuki Equator and Nissan Frontier are essentially identical vehicles under the sheet metal.

For recall information contact Suzuki at 800 934-0934 or Nissan at 800 647-7261 or the National Highway Traffic Safety: Tel: 888 327-4236. ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
