Aerospace fastener distributor Interfast Inc. is establishing a distribution facility in Calgary in response to strong demand from the aviation, oil and gas industries. The announcement came during the Western Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Association 2009 symposium, where Interfast stressed the importance of using only certified fasteners.

“Our team of specialists has been working with Calgary area firms for years and we are delighted to open a regional distribution facility in response to increased business from airlines, manufacturers as well as aircraft maintenance repair and overhaul operations,” stated sales & marketing vice president Conrad Lennert.

The economy has put a spotlight on operational efficiencies, boosting interest in Interfast’s supply chain management expertise, Lennert noted. Interfast uses process mapping to analyze an organization’s information and material flow in order to identify improvements in their supply chain process.

In addition to Calgary, Interfast has seven other facilities in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, as well as Miami and Cleveland. Toronto-based Interfast distributes specialty fasteners, fastening systems and production installation tooling for the aerospace, automotive, electronics and general industry markets.

Portland Bolt & Manufacturing Co. launched an online Tie Rod length and Clevis calculator at portlandbolt.com/tools/tie-rod-calculator/.

The calculator allows users to enter the overall tie rod assembly length and diameter to determine individual rod dimensions and the appropriate clevis size. Tie rod shop drawings often specify an overall length from the center of each clevis pin, without detailing the required individual rod length.

“We feel this tool will help engineers, detailers and steel fabricators not only determine accurate lengths for tie rods when given pin-to-pin dimensions, but also ensure the proper clevis number is being used for a specific rod diameter,” said general manager Greg Lindsay.

“Although the tool does not use complex mathematical formulas to determine the rod lengths, it performs the calculation quickly, removes the possibility of mathematical errors, and eliminates the need for technical insight necessary to accurately determine proper rod lengths.”
