SHOW NEWS: Collins Keynoting at STAFDA
John Wolz
Author and columnist Jim Collins, whose Good to Great book has sold 2.5 million copies, will be the keynote speaker at the 30th annual convention of the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association November 13-15, 2006, in Las Vegas.
Collins is the author of Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap & And Others Don”t. The book has been translated into 32 languages.
“Collins will look at personnel using the analogy of a bus,” according to STAFDA”s preview. “He believes management should first get the right people “on the bus,” the wrong people off the bus (even if they are family members), then the right people in the right seats.” Too much emphasis is placed on motivating otherwise unmotivated or undisciplined people.
Collins believes businesses need to ask themselves what they are passionate about, what is the company best at and what drives its economic engine. Technology is not “the be all” and must be carefully selected.
STAFDA also announced that the Monday afternoon workshop presenters will be: Scott Deming, CEO of Syracuse, NY-based marketing and communications company RCI, will speak on “Creating the Ultimate Customer Experience”; Deborah Thomas-Nininger of DTN Productions International/Hallmark of Etiquette of Columbus, OH will speak on “Reputation Management Building Your Professional Brand Identity”; Chesterfield, MO-based sales consultant Tom Reilly”s workshop will be on “Outside Sales & Sales Pro Basic”; and Greg Smith, president of Chart Your Course International of Conyers, GA will conduct a workshop on “Creating the High-Performance Organization: How the Best Organizations Achieve Success.”
The keynote program and the workshops are included in convention registration. For STAFDA information: Tel: 262 784-4774 or 800 352-2981 Fax 262 784-5059 E-mail: info@stafda.org Web: stafda.org \ 2006 FastenerNews.com
