SHOW NEWS: Fastener Tech, STAFDA, IFMSA and Fastener Fair

Fastener Tech Draws 121 Exhibitors
As of early May Fastener Tech 09 reported 121 exhibiting companies have booked 130 booths thus far for the June 8-10, 2009, events in Chicago.

The trade show will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL, near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

The deadline for advance registration discounts for Fastener Tech is June 1. Online registration is available at: regtechinc.com/fasttechreg.

Seminars begin Monday with advance metrics and print reading by the Fastener Training Institute; and manufacturing fundamentals by Fastener Technology International. Tuesday seminars are: Heat Treating by ASM Heat Treating Society, and metal finishing by Chicago Metal Finishers Institute. On Wednesday the Industrial Fastener Institute will present a seminar on fastener quality.

Fastener Tech is designed for manufacturers, distributors, buyers and users. The program includes an All-Industry Reception by the Mid-West Fastener Association from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Cain Returns to Keynote STAFDA
Former Godfather’s Pizza chairman Herman Cain will be the keynote speaker at the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association 33rd annual convention.

STAFDA members have requested an encore speech since Cain spoke at STAFDA’s 1997 convention.

Cain’s speech carries the same title as one of his business books, Leadership is Common Sense. Cain also is a FOX News business commentator and has been CEO of the National Restaurant Association. In 2004, he ran for the U.S. Senate from Georgia.

The convention will be November 8-10, 2009, in Atlanta.

“You can’t motivate people – people motivate themselves,” Cain says. “Leaders must identify and remove the obstacles that keep people from being self-motivated.”

STAFDA earlier announced that Black & Decker corporate vice president Les Ireland will give the associate state-of-the-industry speech. Ireland also is the president of commercial operations for Black & Decker’s Industrial Products Group Power Tools & Accessories.

STAFDA president Hal Look of Orco Construction Supply will give the state-of-distribution speech.

STAFDA also announced six workshop speakers:

* Alan Beaulieu of the Institute for Trend Research will give projections for the economy and investments.

* “Visual Merchandizing” author Greg Gorman will critique distribution showrooms and how to transform showrooms “without breaking the bank.”

* Butler University professor and University of Industrial Distribution faculty member Dan McQuiston will give his 10-step marketing plan for large and small firms.

* Robert Stevenson will offer ways to deal with over-bearing, demanding and obnoxious customers, bosses, associates and relatives in his presentation, “How to Soar Like an Eagle in a World Full of Turkeys.”

* Steve Strauss will offer growth strategies, goal setting and achieving and creating a great team advice in his presentation, “Small to Big.” Web: STAFDA.org

IFMSA Sponsors Wire 2010 Pavilion
The International Fastener Machinery & Suppliers Association Inc. will sponsor the fastener pavilion at Wire 2010, the International Wire & Cable Trade Fair. The trade show will be April 12-16, 2009, at Messe Dusseldorf in Germany.

Exhibit space includes turnkey rental package of furniture plus access to lounge, hostess and interpreter.

Fastener Fair Unveils New Website
Fastener Fair Stuttgart launched its own website at FastenerFair.eu.

The third Fastener Fair Stuttgart will be October 7-8, 2009, at the new Messe Stuttgart, adjacent to the international airport in Germany’s industrial heartland.

The Fastener Fair Group website is at FastenerFair.com and includes links for the directories and Fastener & Fixing magazine as well as the exhibitions in Stuttgart, Budapest and Coventry.

The first Fastener Fair Stuttgart was held in 2005. In 2007 the trade show drew 435 exhibitors – up 120% from the first show.

In addition to distribution-oriented exhibitors, there is a dedicated manufacturing technology zone.

Show organizer Jerry Ramsdale said the 2009 show is on track to top 500 booths.
