Columbus to Mark 20th Anniversary
Using the theme �The Big Show Turns 20,� the National Industrial Fastener Show & Conference will mark its 20th anniversary at a reception the evening before the Tuesday, May 9, 2000, exposition.
The 83 companies exhibiting at the first Columbus show will be honored at the reception from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday. Nearly half are still with the show.
Over the 20 years exhibit space sales have totaled 6,452 booths.
The show is owned by Jim Bannister and Mike McGuire.
Traditionally the Columbus event has been conferences on Monday and the show on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This year with a new one-day format the show will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Monday activities this year also include a golf outing, conference sessions and Hall of Fame banquet.
Seminars are: �Fastening Basics & Beyond� by Jim Speck, 11 a.m. to noon; �Application Engineering/Heavy Duty, Hard Core� by Jim Speck, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; �Law & Disorder, A Fastener Catastrophe� (mock trial), by the NFDA training committee, 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Barry Porteous of Porteous Fastener Co., Bob Endries of Endries International, and Mel Kirsner, a fastener museum curator and former distributor, will be inducted into the Fastener Hall of Fame.

IFE Adds Career Fair
Reed Exhibition Companies announced it will hold a fastener Career Fair in conjunction with the International Fastener & Precision Formed Parts Manufacturing Expo.
IFE is scheduled April 24-26, 2001, in Rosemont, IL.
The show will be in the recently renamed Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. The former Rosemont Convention Center is near Chicago�s O�Hare International Airport.
Kelvin Marsden-Kish, a Reed vice president and IFE show manager, said the Career Fair is in response to the most recent annual industry survey by Fastener Industry News indicating that finding employees was the top industry problem in 1999. �We believe that holding a Career Fair with IFE will add value to the event for attendees and exhibitors alike.�
In addition to the Career Fair, the show is co-located with Quality Expo International. Quality assurance and product reliability technologies are featured at QEI.

Silverman to Manage New IFFI Show
Barbara Silverman, who previously directed the International Fastener & Precision Formed Parts Manufacturing Exposition (IFE), will manage the new Industrial Fastener & Forming International Exhibition (IFFI).
Silverman managed IFE when it was owned by Pemco. The show was sold to Reed Exhibition Companies in 1998. Silverman now operates independently as BLS & Associates.
IFFI is a new show sponsored by the Industrial Fasteners Institute and the International Fastener Machinery Association and will compete directly with IFE.
The IFI will handle IFFI seminars. The first IFFI is scheduled June 5-7, 2001, in Cleveland, OH.
IFE is set for April 24-26, 2001, at the Rosemont Convention Center near Chicago�s O�Hare International Airport.

Wire Expo Features 57 Technical Sessions
Wire Expo 2000 will include 57 technical presentations, two keynote lectures, three short courses, plant tours and the trade show June 3-8, 2000, in Nashville.
Wire Expo is part of the 70th annual convention of Wire Association International.
Events begin Saturday, June 3, with a full-day course on �Lubricants,� and the first day of a full weekend program on �Steel Wire from Rod to Cable.� On Sunday the steel wire course continues and there will be a full-day course on �Dies � The A to Z of Design & Maintenance.�
Bogdan Golis of Cqestochowa Technical University in Poland will give the Monday Mordica Memorial Lecture on �The Drawing Process & Ways to Improve It.� Ian Park, a consultant, will give the Mordica lecture on Tuesday from Canada, on �Reminiscences of 40 Delightful Years in the Steel Industry.�
Technical sessions will run Monday through Wednesday.
The exposition will open Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday and Thursday until 3 p.m.

Michael O�Brien, vice president of MascoTech, will be the keynote speaker at the Confederation of British Metalforming conference on globalization.
The conference will be May 15-16, 2000, at the National Metalforming Centre in West Midlands, UK.
Nick Scheele, president of Ford Europe, is scheduled to give the vehicle manufacturer�s view of what globalization means to the automotive industry.

STAFDA Announces Workshop Topics
Showing your customers what value you add, international sales and tools for business are among topics for the 2000 Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association convention.
The 24th annual STAFDA convention will be November 5-7, 2000, at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN.
John Allenbach, vice president for industrial sales for the professional tool division of Danaher Corporation, will give the manufacturer state-of-the-industry address. STAFDA president Marc Beerman of Beerman Precision Inc. will give the STAFDA president�s annual distribution state-of-the-industry address.
Allenbach is responsible for sales of Holokrome Fasteners, Armstrong and Allen hand tools, and Jacobs Chucks & Specialty Products. Prior to joining Danaher in 1996 Allenbach was with Black & Decker.
Economist Barry Asmus will be the keynote speaker.
