SHOW NEWS: Seminar Programs Expanded for 2010 NIFS/West
The educational program in conjunction with the 14th annual National Industry Fastener Show/West has been expanded for 2010.
NIFS/West events will be November 8-10, 2010, at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Conferences and an opening reception are on Monday. The trade show will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Monday sessions are:
• The Fastener Training Institute will present “Fastening Technology Workshop’ with instructor Bengt Blendulf of EduPro US. 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• FTI “Print Reading” workshop with Carmen Vertullo of SimplyBetter Inc. 9 a.m. to noon.
• FTI “Solid Modeling & Computer Aided Design for Fasteners & Assembly Components,” taught by Vertullo. 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
• “Fastener Finance, Treasury, Credit & Controllers” meeting presented y the Fastener Industry Financial Group Network and Business Credit Management Association. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m,
• The Pacific-West Fastener Association will present “DFARS: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You,” with Jennifer Baker Reid, the Industrial Fastener Institute’s lobbyist in Washington, DC. 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
• Solid modeling and computer aided design for fasteners and assembly components.
• A mergers & acquisitions roundtable will be moderated by Ross Shell, Red Idea Partners, and includes Buddy Blattner, Active Screw & Fastener; Eric Langeland, JP Morgan Chase; and Jeff Scheidemeyer, Duff & Phelps. 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Free.
• A panel discussion on “Looking to the Future: A Perspective from the Fastener Supply Chain on 2011 & Beyond” will be presented by the National Fastener Distributors Association from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Free.
• Women in the Fastener Industry will meet from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a four-woman panel moderated by Mary Lou Aderman of the Aderman Co. Free.

Other events in conjunction with NIFS/West include:
• NIFS created a “Fastener Information & Education Center” on the show floor for exhibitors to make one-hour presentations at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday.
• The International Fastener Machinery & Suppliers Association will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Show management reported 624 booths have been sold to 504 companies from 14 countries. Last year there were 602 booths for 497 companies.
The first NIFS/West in 1997 drew 224 booths. The record is 688 exhibiting companies totaling 829 booths in 2007.
Advance registration for NIFS/West is $40 until September 30, then $50 in advance, and $60 in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Hotel Deals Start at $24
Las Vegas hotels are offering deals during the National Industrial Fastener Show/West.
Adjacent Excalibur Hotel was listed recently on Hotels.com for $30 and the cheapest nearby hotel was Hooters at $24.
Official NIFS-negotiated prices at the host Mandalay Bay Resort vary by the night, ranging from $109 Sunday to $139 on Monday and Tuesday nights.
A recent Hotels.com price was slightly lower at $136 for Mandalay Bay. The upscale TheHotel at Mandalay Bay was $160.

For those wanting to try the newest mega development in Las Vegas, the 4,000-room Aria Resort in the CityCenter development was listed at $159. The boutique Mandarin Oriental was $272.
CityCenter – the largest privately-funded construction project in U.S. history – opened on the Las Vegas Strip at the end of 2009. The 16.7 million square feet of space on 78 acres includes hotels, condos, condo/hotels, Viva Elvis by Cirque du Soleil, a Fine Arts Collection and retail.
The highest price on the Hotels.com listing was the Skylofts at the MGM Grand at $1,500.
