The Shanghai Fastener Expo has made no bones about its ambition to claim a place in the first division of global fastener events alongside Fastener Fair Stuttgart and the National Industrial Fastener Show in Las Vegas.
Based on its 2013 performance, “there is no question it has really jumped into contention,” Fastener+Fixing executive editor Phil Matten reflected.
The Fastener Expo Shanghai is organized by Shanghai Ebseek Exhibition Co Limited – ChinaFastener.com – and supported by the Chinese Fastener Industry Association plus regional associations.
The show relocated to the new Shanghai World Exhibition & Convention Center – part of the 2010 World Expo site in Pudong.
Hall Two hosted operational manufacturing technology exhibits Thursday to Saturday, “outscoring both the U.S. and European fastener shows – maybe even giving Wire in Düsseldorf pause for thought. ”
Advanced technologies of National Machinery and Nedschroef could be heard alongside Sakamura and Asahi Sunak; as well as Jern Yao, Chun Zu and Hyodong and others. Plus there were numerous Chinese built machines. Threading and heat technologies, supporting and quality equipment made the machinery section exhibits comprehensive.
Hall Three exhibits were fasteners and stamped parts – primarily of Chinese origin.
For a fastener show “this venue… represents a major and very welcome upgrade to provide near European facilities,” Matten found. “Stand quality and design was for the large part, very impressive.”
Show organizers projected 650 exhibitors. “That may well not be far off the mark but it hardly matters given the range of both equipment and finished product exhibitors was comprehensive,” Matten said.
Opening day traffic was stronger than the second full day. Traffic quality in the machinery hall was reportedly “promising.”
“The few European exhibitors in the fastener hall were also tentatively pleased by initial contacts. There was certainly evidence of a greater proportion of middle and operational management than has often been the case in previous Chinese fastener shows – particularly in the machinery hall.”
The organizers were aiming for 18,000 attendees.
“It’s always tricky to assess actual volumes in large halls but that feels somewhat ambitious and may hinge on the counting method. All visitors were bar code scanned at entry – but also at re-entry,” Matten reported. “Overseas visitors certainly appeared thin on the ground. There were seemingly few Europeans and Americans.” ©2013 GlobalFastenerNews.com
