SHOW NEWS: STAFDA Adds HR and Business Valuation Workshops

The Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association has added human relations and business valuation sessions to its November 13-15, 2006, convention schedule in Las Vegas.
Human relations consultant Nancye Combs will speak on “Errors & Omissions in Managing Employees,” and Dr. Bart Basi will speak on “How to Value Your Business.”
Consultants available to STAFDA members Monday morning are: Doug Austin, insurance; Bill Bobco, showroom & warehouse; Steve Epner, technology; Liz Harpst, information systems; Mark Harrison, legal care; and Jon Schreibfeder, inventory.
STAFDA previously announced that author and columnist Jim Collins, whose Good to Great book has sold 2.5 million copies, will be the keynote speaker. Jeff Campbell, vice president/sales at Irwin & Lenox Industrial Tools, will give the associate state-of-the-industry address and STAFDA president Doug Hahn of Hahn Systems will give the distribution state-of-the-industry speech.
Monday afternoon workshop presenters will be: Scott Deming, “Creating the Ultimate Customer Experience;” Deborah Thomas-Nininger, “Reputation Management Building Your Professional Brand Identity;” Tom Reilly, “Outside Sales & Sales Pro Basic;” and Greg Smith, “Creating the High-Performance Organization: How the Best Organizations Achieve Success.”
STAFDA Numbers Up
STAFDA reported both distributor company advance registration and overall registration are up 17% from the same point a year ago.
With two months to go the 830 sold booths for the 30th annual convention already exceed last year”s 815 total. Nearly a quarter of the exhibitors are new for 2006.
STAFDA”s 30th annual gathering will be November 13-15, 2006, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
STAFDA reported the Las Vegas Hilton is sold out on peak nights. Friday and Saturday nights prior to the STAFDA events are booked at many hotels due to the Veterans Day weekend, a Rolling Stones concert and a boxing match. There are numerous hotels within a mile of the convention center with vacancies beginning Sunday night. Most STAFDA programs are Monday through Wednesday. The Las Vegas Monorail links more hotels.
