SHOW NEWS: Wire Expo Features Technical Education

There will be more than 50 technical papers, 90 authors, one-day short courses and plant tours at Wire Expo 2002 in addition to a trade show with 300 exhibiting companies.
The events will be June 8-13, 2002, at Chicago�s Navy Pier. \
Wire Expo is organized by the Wire Association International, which has 4,300 members worldwide.
Sponsors include the American Wire Producers Association, Chicago Bolt, Nut & Screw Association, Electrical Insulation Conference, Society of Plastics Engineers and the Wire & Cable Industry Suppliers Association.
The technical program includes a fastener presentation on �Development of steels for high-strength bolts with excellent delayed fracture resistance,� by Yuichi Namimura, Nobuhikno Ibaraki, Wataru Wurushihara and Takenori Nakayma of Kobe Steel of Japan.
There also are a wide variety of technical programs for nonferrous, fiber optics and electrical subjects. General abstract subjects include pickle line fume control, spill prevention, gauges and control systems, annealing, KSM, smooth bar & wire drawing, three-dimensional FEM simulation, alternate sulfonic acids and cryogenic tempering.
One-day short courses include �Failure analysis of steel wire and wire rod,� �Practical Wire Drawing,� �Wire Mill Problem Solving,� �Plastics in the Wire & Cable Industry� and �Pickling Science.� Robert Glodowski of Stratcor will give the annual Mordica Memorial Award lecture.
There will be plant tours of Merit Steel Co. and Copperfield LLC.
