Stanley Engineered Fastening is expanding its presence in Elyria, OH, by renovating a 101,000 sq ft manufacturing facility to produce stud welding equipment and fasteners under the Nelson brand, the Chronicle-Telegram reports.
“Between that new facility and expansion of Nelson Stud Welding’s West Ridge Road headquarters, the city is expected to gain nearly 100 manufacturing jobs, another 130,000 square feet of manufacturing space and millions in investment,” writes Dave O’Brien of the Chronicle-Telegram.
The facility will create “a safer, more comfortable work environment for employees,” streamline manufacturing processes and increase production efficiency, the company stated.
The site will house 70 employees and will be a state-of-the-art “Industry 4.0” site serving as a model for future Stanley production facilities, according to the Chronicle-Telegram. Industry 4.0, also sometimes called the fourth Industrial Revolution, involves combining automation, robotics, cloud computing and IoT — or “the Internet of Things.”
After “lengthy negotiations,” the city offered Nelson a 15-year, 75% enterprise zone tax incentive and a 15-year city income tax rebate on new job creation. Nelson agreed to hire at least 25 additional employees and add 30,000 sq ft of manufacturing space worth up to $3 million, while adding potentially $1.3 million in taxable payroll income, the Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Stanley Engineered Fastening and Nelson Stud Welding are divisions of Stanley Black & Decker, which bought Nelson the Doncasters Group for $440 million in early 2018. Web: StanleyEngineeredFastening.com
