SWD Marking 35th Year in Metal Finishing
SWD Inc. is marking its 35th anniversary of its founding by Richard Delawder.
“Dick” Delawder ran a construction company and built a house for someone in the metal finishing business, which led to starting SWD with partners. After the first year, Delawder bought out the partners.
SWD opened in March 1980 with three employees in a 9,000 sq. ft. leased facility and began black oxiding, cleaning and pickling operations with used equipment. In late 1980, SWD began passivating stainless steel and in 1981 purchased Fastener Sorting Corporation.
Today SWD has 120 employees and runs three shifts per day in its 80,000 sq. ft. facility in the Chicago suburb of Addison, IL.
