The Taiwan Fastener Trading Association has informed its members that the Taiwanese Bureau of Foreign Trade has implemented strict examination on the application for certificate of origin for fasteners exported to the EU since July 2014, Fastener World reports.

“In addition, starting from Oct. 5th, 2015, companies applying for certificate of origin for fasteners to the EU must not only comply with the regulations for the certificate of origin and process approvals, but also must comply with other relevant notifications,” according to Fastener World.

The new examination is intended to eliminate “the suspicion from the Customs of the EU’s member states over the certificate of origin issued by the Taiwanese government,” Fastener World reports.

The move is intended to prevent illegal transshipments of fasteners.

Fastener exports from Taiwan grew 3.9% in volume to 530,000 tons in the first four months of 2015, with the export value up 2.6% to US$ 1.3 billion.
