Taiwan’s China Steel Files Dumping Charges

Taiwan’s China Steel Corp. filed dumping charges with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) against other Asian steelmakers, including BaoSteel of China, JFE and Nippon Steel of Japan, and Pohang Steel Co. of South Korea, CENS.com reports.

MOEA is investigating actual damage to domestic firms. A public hearing has been scheduled for the end of April, followed by a preliminary damage statement due by the beginning of May.

“CSC suggests that non-directional electrical steel coils imported from Japan enjoy zero tariffs but should be taxed 17.12% anti-dumping duties,” CENS.com reports.

CSC reportedly are pursuing 34.16% and 30.28% anti-dumping duties on carbon-steel cold-rolled steel imported from China and South Korea.

“CSC complained that carbon-steel plates imported from South Korea and India are unfairly competing against local firms who believe these products should be levied 35.89% and 38.53% anti-dumping duties.”

In February CSC raised domestic April-May prices by an average of 1.11%, saying the global steel market had bottomed out and would likely start its recovery. ©2012 GlobalFastenerNews.com
