TCI Group Acquires Grattan Fastening

TCI Investment Group Inc. – parent company to Brighton-Best International – acquired Dave Grattan & Sons Inc. / Grattan Fastening Products, according to a legal notice of bulk sale.

Grattan is a fastener distributor based in Southern California.

The original Dave Grattan Company was founded in 1957 by Dave Grattan as a sales representative for a New York-based masonry anchor manufacturer. In 1960 Grattan relocated his company from Florida to Southern California and began representing other fastener manufacturers and developed customers in the hardware, lumber and industrial supply sectors.  In the 1970s he introduced the Grattan brand of fasteners.

The Notice to Creditors of the Bulk Sale listed assets including: Fixed assets, machinery, computer equipment, furniture, trade fixtures, cargo van, inventory, cash on hand, accounts receivable, goodwill, customer and vendor lists, trademarks, business and trade names and other intangible assets. Bulk sale notices are mandated by California law whenever an inventory-based business is sold.  The “bulk sale” designation indicates the entire business, including DBA identities and intellectual property, were sold.

Founded in 1986, Ta Chen became a master distributor of stainless, aluminum and nickel alloy coils, sheets, plates, long products, tubes and PVFs.  Ta Chen entered the U.S. market and became a major stainless steel master distributor.

In 2007 Taiwan-based Ta Chen, acquired U.S.-based Brighton-Best Socket Screw Mfg. and in 2013 Ta Chen acquired Porteous Fastener Company.

Brighton-Best traces its history to a Cincinnati storefront factory, which opened in 1925 as Brighton Screw Co. Stanley Sevell and Perry Rosenstein founded Best Socket Screw Co. in New York City in 1965.

Robert Shieh – who started in fasteners in sales for San Shing Fastech Corp. – founded Ta Chen with 11 investors each providing $7,000.  From 1994 to 2005, Ta  Chen Stainless built casting facilities in China. By 2008 Ta Chen revenues totaled U.S.$ 1 billion. Today Ta Chen Group has 3,000 employees and is publicly traded on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.  Web: tachen.com
