Textron Fastening Systems plans to open a $35 million plant in Greenville, MS, during the third quarter of 2004, president Rick Clayton announced. The 308,000 sq ft facility will employ 500 people to manufacture specialty threaded fasteners and engineered assemblies for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to the automotive industry. Dave Francois will be plant manager.
The company said it will consolidate much of the fastener production from several U.S. plants. In 2003, TFS announced the closure of several Rockford, IL, plants.

State officials praised the announcement.
“We’re thrilled that Textron Fastening Systems has chosen Greenville for its new manufacturing facility,” Gov. Haley Barbour told the Associated Press. “The decision by this Fortune 500 company business unit to locate an advanced manufacturing center in the Mississippi Delta will improve the economic landscape of the region.”

TFS will become one of Greenvilles largest manufacturers, employing 430 hourly and 70 salaried employees. The refurbished facility, which was constructed in 1961, is located at 1825 North Theobald St., Greenville Northeast Industrial Park, Greenville, MS 38703-2203.
