Training Institute Planning More Programs
Eleven participants in the first weeklong training program have qualified for the Fastener Training Institute’s Certified Fastener Specialist designation.
FTI and the Industrial Fasteners Institute partnered to present the advance technical training program in Chicago and are planning a 2010 program. The five-day training for employees of fastener distributors and manufacturers included manufacturing processes, consensus standards and quality control.
Joe Greenslade, IFI director of engineering technology, noted he has “worked in the fastener industry for 39 years. I have felt strongly throughout that time that the fastener industry is in dire need of more and better training. Finally it looks like the Fastener Training Institute is in the process of filling that critical need.”
The CFS program, which now has 220 graduates, was developed by the Los Angeles Fastener Association in 1998 and LAFA founded FTI in 2008 to expand training programs.
FTI co-chair John Wachman of Desert Distribution, Scottsdale, AZ, said that the success of the 2009 Chicago event “confirms that there is a continuing need for in-depth product training in our industry.” FTI will add to the CFS curriculum, he said.
The 2009 Chicago program was taught by Carmen Vertullo, Salim Brahimi and Greenslade. It included interactive exercises, quizzes and plant tours of Semblex, Chem-Plate, Nylok and ATF. ©2009 GlobalFastenerNews.com
