Tramec LLC has acquired Continental-Aero from Martin “Marty” Schneider and Margie Schneider.
Tramec acquired LRG Fastener Corporation – the owner of Harrison, NJ-based Continental-Aero LLC. The new legal entity is Tramec Continental-Aero LLC, president Gary Sullo announced.
Continental-Aero, a stocking master distributor of nylon insert locknuts, all-metal locknuts and finished hex nuts, will continue to focus on supplying the North American distributor market.
Founded in 1948, Continental-Aero maintains stocking warehouses in Alsip, IL; Arlington, TX; Chino, CA; and New Jersey; and maintains a sales office in Niles, IL.
Continental-Aero is best known for its distinguishable press-closed nylon lock nuts and its trademarked Royal Purple Tork Lok nylon insert.
“The addition of Continental-Aero expands Tramec’s product portfolio and enhances our presence in the fastener distribution marketplace,” Sullo added. “Continental-Aero provides an exceptional level of customer service and expertise in supplying both general-line fastener and vendor-managed inventory (VMI) distributors.”
Sullo described Continental-Aero as “an excellent strategic fit with our Fastener Services business.” Fastener Services is headquartered in Carpentersville, IL, and is managed by Chelly Gomez.
Bill Giddins and Kelly Wiechen will continue in their existing management roles at Continental-Aero.
Continental-Aero had been owned and headed by Marty Schneider, who will retire. As president of the Metropolitan Fastener Distributors Association from 1994 to 1999, Schneider was a member of the Fastener Industry Coalition during the U.S. Fastener Quality Act amendment and implementation process. In 2009 Giddens became CEO of Continental-Aero and Wiechen became COO. Schneider was named chairman of Continental-Aero at that time.
Giddins said management, sales and operation teams “look forward to providing service excellence to Tramec and Continental-Aero customers with the increased capabilities of our combined product portfolio. The integration of Continental-Aero and Tramec’s Fastener Services division, Tramec Continental-Aero, LLC, will continue to do business as Continental-Aero under the leadership of myself, Wiechen and Gomez.”
Tramec LLC was formed in 2008 with the merger of Iola, KS-based Tramec Corp., founded in 1980 to service the heavy-duty tractor and trailer markets, and MacLean Crewson of Buffalo, NY.
Tramec supplies highly engineered components to the heavy-duty tractor and trailer markets (both OEM and aftermarket sales), along with the general industrial fastener market. Products include: automatic brake adjusters, air brake connectors and hose assemblies, pressure release valves, electrical connectors and components, specialty fasteners and a diverse range of truck and trailer components.
