Turkey Increases Antidumping Measures

The Turkish government increased antidumping measures on fasteners imported from any country in consignments greater than two tons.

Previous measures were brought into force four years ago as the result of intensive lobbying by BESIAD the Turkish Fastener Association under the leadership of its president Mustafa Tecdelioglu, managing director of Cetin Civata, one of the largest fastener producers in Turkey.

In a recent interview with Fastener & Fixing Europe magazine, Tecdelioglu explained he used personal contacts within the Turkish government to obtain the antidumping measures, which applied additional import duty and VAT on imported fasteners valued at under US$2,500 per ton.

The latest measures increase the threshold value to US$3,500 per ton effective April 10, 2009. Tecdelioglu told F&FE that importers will pay approximately 20% more for fasteners.

An F&FE survey of the Turkish fastener market in its March 2009 issue names manufacturers abruptly losing orders from automotive manufacturers both in Turkey and in its European export market.
