U.S. Fastener Exports Rise 9.26% in 2012

U.S. fastener exports grew 9.26% to $3.3. billion in 2012, but could not eclipse the 10.7% rise in imports to $4.6 billion, ChinaFastener.Info reports.
The top five consumers of U.S. fasteners were Canada (up 7.6% to $1.08 billion); Mexico (up 19.9% to $988.8 million); the UK (up 9% to $154.2 million); China (down 10.1% to $119 million) and France (up 21.2% to $88.8 million).
The top five importers of fasteners to the U.S. included Taiwan (up 3.6% to $1.4 billion); China (up 10% to $1.02 billion); Japan (up 32.7% to $758.2 million); Germany (up 11.1% to $277.5 million); and Canada (down 3.7% to $268.7 million).
U.S. fastener exports and imports saw double-digits gains in January, Zepol reports.
Exports of U.S. produced fasteners grew 16% to $282.2 million in the opening month of 2013, bolstered by strengthening demand in Canada and Mexico, according to trade data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Fastener imports to the U.S. also grew in January, rising 14% to $392.5 million.
December fastener imports to the U.S. fell 3% to $344.8 million. That drop followed an 11% decrease to $353.7 million in November.
According to the China Fastener Industry Association, China’s total fastener output reached 6.6 million tons in 2012, down 2.94% year-on-year, ChinaFastener.com reports. The value for that output totaled 65 billion Yuan (US$10.46 billion).
Full-year China fastener exports fell 3.6% to 2.49 million tons, while the export value edged up 1% to US$4.71 billion. Total fastener imports for China dropped 3.1% to 255,700 tons with the value increasing 5.4% to US$3.1 billion. ©2013 GlobalFastenerNews.com
