U.S. Fastener Imports and Exports Drop

Both U.S. fastener imports and exports declined in November, Zepol reports.
After posting an 8.5% gain in October, exports of U.S. fasteners in November fell 5% to $279.7 million, according to trade data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The top five consumers of U.S. fasteners during the month were Canada (down 4.7% month-on-month to $90.8 million); Mexico (down 10% to $85.6 million); UK (down 7.4% to $11.9 million); China (up 19.2% to $11.05 million); and France (down 15% to $7.45 million).
Imports to the U.S. fell at more than double the rate of exports, as fasteners shipped to the U.S. dropped 11% to $353.7 million in November after a 10.7% increase to $396.04 million in October.
The top five countries importing fasteners to the U.S. in November were Taiwan (down 16% to $99.6 million); China (up 1.7% to $80 million); Japan (down 15% to $60.3 million); Germany (down 5.5% to $21.47 million); and Canada (down 16% to $19.4 million).
In October exports of U.S. fasteners grew 8.5% to $294.5 million, reversing September’s 6% slide to $271.4 million.
