U.S. Fastener Imports and Exports Reverse Course

U.S. fastener imports and exports reversed course in October after declining the previous month.
Exports of U.S. fasteners grew 9% to $294.5 million in October as compared to the previous year, reversing September’s 6% slide to $271.4 million, according to trade data released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Month-on-month, exports grew 8.5%.

The top five consumers of U.S. fasteners during the month were Canada (up 9.1% month-on-month to $95.3m); Mexico (up 24% to $95.21m); UK (up 4.5% to $12.9m); China (down 18.7% to $9.27m); and France ($8.8m).

Imports to the U.S. grew as well, rising 11% to $396.04 million in October, representing a month-to-month increase of 10.7%.

The top five import countries were Taiwan (up 16.4% to $118.6m); China (down 4.8% to 78.7 million); Japan (up 40.4% to 70.48 million); Canada (up 5% to $23 million); and Germany (down 2.5% to $22.72 million).

In August U.S. fastener exports rose 8% month-over-month to $287.5 million, while imports decreased 3% to $407 million. ©2012 GlobalFastenerNews.com
